With all the doctors’ appointments, a recent trip to the ER, and just the chaos of life with a toddler and infant, I’ve managed to finish a few projects. Here is a run down of what I have been working on…
When my mom was here, she accompanied me to the yarn store and picked out these two yarns to make scarves for her.
This is the Rosalie Scarf by Gregory Courtney and can be found in Simply Shetland at Tomales Bay. I was able to get the pattern for free without having to buy the book since I purchased a ball of yarn. This scarf is made from one ball of Simply Shetland Lambswool and Cashmere. Based on a suggestion by the sales woman at the yarn store, I repeated the lace pattern to make each lace section a bit longer.
This scarf is made from two balls of Flirtation by Artful Yarns. It is simple garter stitch scarf. I used #13 needles and cast on 10 stitches. It was bit like knitting a shag rug–not that I have ever done that before, but I imagine it must be a bit similar.
I made another of the Rosalie Scarf, but stuck to the lace pattern as it was written. This time, I just added a fourth section.
Continuing on the scarf roll, I made yet another ruffled scarf made from chunky Misti Alpaca. Unlike all the others I have made, I used two hanks to make this one extra long.
I managed to squeeze in a little sewing time this week and finished a new dress for Hazel. I totally forgot I had cut this fabric before Jonah was born. At the rate Hazel’s been growing, I wanted to try and get this finished, so she would be able to actual still wear it. This is the first dress I made that has a liner and the second one where I have added a zipper. Since I was too lazy to head out to the fabric store to get liner fabric, I used left over fabric from this baby kimono.
The main fabric is a nice soft cordoruy with green polka dots. I used Butterick pattern 4842 and made the flounces a bit longer.
With the cold weather now here, I decided to make Hazel a new pair of mittens. I started them on Friday and finished them on Sunday.
The pattern is from Adorable Knits for Tots. I used leftover Jaeger’s Matchmaker DK from the Garter Stitch Cardigan I made last year and half a ball of Rowan Handknit DK cotton. The pattern has you knit the mittens with straight needles and then seam them up. If I ever make these again, I will knit them in the round. Seems silly to have a bulky seam in mittens.
Now, on to some holiday knitting and sewing.
Nice to see your post – sounds like you’ve been busy in many ways! zippers and linings, too..
The scarves look lovely. I really like your daughter’s dress. They seem to grow so fast dont they, that as soon as you finish one thing you need to make it bigger. I love the little mittens too, so cute on her.
Love the scarves!!! Great job!!
Hi…I love the cute little A-line dresses that you have been making. Do you use a pattern to make the ones with the keyhole opening and button? I would love to have the pattern name and # if so. I have a daughter that turned 2 in Aug. and I sew but I’m having a hard time finding a good a-line dress pattern. I am impressed by how creative you are and don’t know how you find the time to finish so many projects! I would love to make the little a-line dress for my daughter…help.
