Holiday Baking

15 Dec

Please excuse my time away from posting, but I am just now emerging from the depths of holiday crafting.  Since I am home sick today, I thought I would fill you in on some of the items I’ve been making. Pardon the slew of posts that are soon to follow this one.

Holiday baking has been in full swing at our house every weekend.  With a cookie swap, holiday parties and just the regular ‘ole baking to satisfy our never-ending love for sweets, I have been making my way through Martha Stewart’s Cookie book.

This past weekend, I put together some cookie tins for my daughter’s teachers as well as for some neighbors.  Here is a peak of what they received.

mini tins

large tins

Each tin contained snickerdoodles, gingerbread chocolate cookies (my favorite), chocolate crackles (J’s favorite), and macaroon marshmallows (my husband’s favorite).  All three cookie recipes are from the Martha cookie book.  The marshmallow recipe is from last December’s Wonder Times issue.  So sad that the magazine went under. Both H & J loved helping me make everything.  Of course, the best part of eating them.

I must have made over 20 dozen cookies, and I am embarrassed to say only 3 cookies are left in the house.  Granted we did give a lot away, but we also ate a ton.  Gotta love the holidays.

I am chuckling b/c this is yet another thing we have in common. Last year, all my xmas cookies were from the same book. I want to try the crackles this year, and maybe try some chocolate dipped homemade marshmallows this year. Happy holidays!

Wow, that cookie tin looks amazing. All of those cookies would be gone in one second if they were put in my classroom! Probably because I would eat them all before the kids! My friend took me to this place that makes Indianapolis Specialty Desserts and we both bought these desserts for a holiday party for the class. Maybe it would’ve been a better idea to make them, but I think some parents have a problem with that.
